(Nom du directeur du groupe)

Rosmy Camargo — Founder & Artistic Director, Puerta de Oro de Colombia Rosmy Camargo hails from Barranquilla, Colombia, a city known for its rich folkloric traditions and carnival culture. She moved to Miami in 2001, drawn by the city's multicultural vibrancy and Latin American connections that felt like home. Rosmy first founded the group in Hartford, Connecticut, around the year 2000, as part of a cultural festival. Later, she formally re-established it in Miami in 2008 as Puerta de Oro de Colombia. With the motto “Rompiendo Fronteras” (“Breaking Borders”), the group aims to transcend cultural and geographic barriers through dance, music, and shared heritage. The ensemble (about 40 performers) celebrates Colombia’s regional diversity by performing dances such as • Cumbia • Bambuco • Currulao • Vallenato • Mapalé • Porro • Fandango • Bullerengue • Carnaval de Barranquilla and more from the Atlantic, Pacific, Andean, and Llanos regions. Their authentic visuals and sounds include multi-layered skirts for women, traditional attire for men (including the iconic sombrero vueltiao), plus a rich mix of African (tambor alegre, llamador) and Indigenous instruments (maracas, gaitas, flutes) Puerta de Oro de Colombia delivers dance workshops, participates in radio and TV features, and serves as Artist-in-Residence. The organization is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and is accredited by UNESCO’s International Dance Council (CID) and is part of CIOFF, elevating its role in preserving intangible cultural heritage. Rosmy’s work weaves identity and community, especially for Colombian diaspora, by ensuring folk traditions remain shared, joyful, and alive in Miami and beyond. Rosmy is the visionary behind Folkuria, a new folk festival in Miami inspired by UNESCO’s World Folklore Day, designed as a vibrant, cross-cultural celebration featuring international participation and Colombian heritage. With a background in communication, journalism, cultural management, and public health, she infuses cultural programming with inclusivity, healing, and sustainable impact.
