Group Bio

The Bailey Mountain Cloggers, established in 1974 at Mars Hill University, are multi-award-winning national champions of American clogging folk dance. The team consists of a diverse group of dancers who have built a national and international reputation for excellence in clog dancing. Many members have been inducted into the American Clogging Hall of Fame and have participated in the All-American and Junior All-American teams.

We are proud members of CIOFF USA and have traveled internationally and across the United States for over 40 years, sharing the rich traditions of Southern Appalachian clogging. Our repertoire includes a wide range of clogging styles, from traditional dances influenced by Ireland, Scotland, England, the Cherokee, and Africa, to contemporary styles that incorporate precision clogging with hip-hop and tap influences. Some of our signature dances include the Smooth Mountain Square Dance, Running Set Precision, and Waltz Clog, which is performed with jump ropes.

We are accompanied by talented Old Time String Bands that play traditional string instruments typical of the Appalachian region. Our dance form represents a vibrant fusion, reflecting the rich heritage of the diverse communities that contributed to its development.

As one of the few college-based performing clog teams in the nation, the Bailey Mountain Cloggers offer art performance grants and college credit courses. We proudly serve as ambassadors of goodwill for the college and promote the folk dance traditions of the Southern Mountains. Our commitment has established us as leaders in the field of American clog dance on both national and international stages.
