Group Bio

American Legacy is an American folk dance group dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich heritage of early American dance. Founded in 2010, the group specializes in traditional styles such as cowboy line and swing, American clogging, and pioneer dances. Rooted in the western United States, its members proudly honor the legacy of their pioneer ancestors who crossed the plains in the 1850s to settle in Utah. Over the years, American Legacy has toured extensively, bringing the spirit of America’s past to audiences across the globe.

Director Bio

Lianne Ames

Lianne Ames began her professional career as a singer and dancer at the Promised Valley Playhouse in Salt Lake City before starring as Belle Davenport in a historical production in Skagway, Alaska. She earned a BFA in Musical Dance Theater from Brigham Young University, where she performed lead roles in Chess and The Merry Wives of Windsor and toured with the BYU Young Ambassadors. An award-winning choreographer, she has directed and choreographed numerous productions, including Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Oklahoma, and Hello, Dolly!, earning accolades such as first place in the Kansas City Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and a Blue Cappy Award for Best Choreography. She also choreographed for Central Missouri State University's show choir and worked extensively with high schools, colleges, and community theaters. Lianne and her husband previously owned the Salmon Valley Playhouse in Idaho, producing musicals such as You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. For over 30 seasons, she has directed, co-directed, or performed in The Nutcracker. She now leads American Legacy, a folk dance group that shares traditional American music and dance locally and internationally. In addition, she owns and operates Legacy Performing Arts Academy in Roosevelt, Utah, where she continues to teach ballet and musical theater—a passion she has pursued for over 35 years.
